About High On The Hog Festival
Fun For The Entire Community
In 1987 the City of Winchester, Tn started a small festival as a part of The Main Street Project.
One Saturday afternoon in June, 4 local teams competed in a Rib cooking competition. It was a great day
and so many folks came out to the Winchester City Park to watch and see what it was all about. The
Main Street Committee decided to make it annual event. Yes, it was the birth of High on the Hog.
The contest grew from year to year and had a governed body of Memphis in May. Years passed with
serval different organization being the sponsors of the event, but in 2003 the Kiwanis Club of Franklin
County was asked to take the event and the rest is history. High on the Hog was a community event with
families coming out the park to the ride carnival rides, be in a beauty contest or just sit and listen to the
music.
High on the Hog was renamed in 2003 to The High on the Hog Festival and has been that for the last 20
years. After 20 years the festival has grown so much and has hosted many cook teams and judges from
around the country. The High on the Hog Festival is a premier KCBS BBQ contest located on the shores of
Tims Ford Lake.
The High on the Hog Festival is the major source for Fun Raising for the club and all profits from the
festival stay in the Franklin County area for children and families.
Carnival Rides, Beauty Contest, 5-K Runs, Disc Golf Tournament, Motorcycle Poker Run, Corn Hole,
Vintage Car Cruise-In and much much more makes this the best festival around.
In 2021, Kiwanis decided to join the SCA (Steak Cookoff Association) and now host SCA contest the 2nd
Saturday in May, along with Crafters and vendors.
The KCBS BBQ contest is always the 3rd weekend in May.
